WHAT’S NEXT FROM THE FIRST PILOT OFFSHORE WIND PROJECT IN VIETNAM AND EXTENSIVE SUPPLY CHAIN DEVELOPMENT
WHAT
- Opportunities for Swedish companies in the offshore wind supply chain by providing solutions for integration, construction materials and equipment.
- The first pilot offshore wind project in Vietnam has been assigned to PetroVietnam (PVN) – a state-owned company in O&G industry. The government also requests for support from experienced international investors, and has received up to 9 proposals to participate in the construction of offshore wind power projects in Vietnam from large energy corporations, such as CIP (Denmark), BP, Corrio (UK), Petronas (Malaysia), etc.
HOW
Vietnam is developing its offshore wind supply chain, with state-owned O&G companies leading the field. PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) is a subsidiary under PVN specialized in EPCIC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning) for offshore project. PTSC has recently delivered offshore wind turbine bases to Orsted in Taiwan and winning a bid for an international project in the Asia-Pacific region. PTSC has also begun constructing offshore transformer stations for a major wind power project in the Baltic Sea. These advancements provide business opportunities for Swedish companies in the offshore wind supply chain by providing solutions for integration, construction materials and equipment. The technical potential for offshore wind of 600 GW, and this energy source could provide 12% of total power sources by 2035. According to PDP 8, Vietnam targets to have 6 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. Business Sweden in Vietnam has been running the Energy Alliance for years in order to facilitate local engagement for Swedish companies in energy sector. We have arranged high-level meetings, conducted studies and research to position Swedish technical know-how and consultancies, and organized workshops with key authorities and important stakeholders. For offshore wind, we will continue to foster further discussions and engagement with local and international players, with stronger focus on showcasing Swedish innovative solutions.
